We are pleased to invite PDN grant staff to participate in an exciting 6 day Summer Professional Development Institute (from Friday to Friday) where you will learn to create movies using your iPads in an exciting venue: THE BRONX ZOO.
IMPORTANT: By registering for Day 1 you are committing to attend all 6 days of the Institute.
Day 1
Location: Harlem Renaissance Technology Center (423 W. 125th - 6th floor)
Description: Attendees will learn to manage, create and produce activities in the classroom with multiple iPads. Each participant will receive an iPad 3 with preloaded applications.
Days 2-6
Location: Bronx Zoo (2300 Southern Blvd)
Description: Attendees will participate in an exciting week-long field trip, where they will have behind-the-scenes access and will use their iPad to develop public service announcements to help save endangered species.
Participants will take a personality test to be paired up with an endangered species that best meets their profile. They will be conducting research using non-fiction text, studying on-site, and participating in conversations with keepers and scientists in order to learn about their animal. We will also connect and collaborate with various organizations that are working to prevent extinction of endangered species to produce a public service announcement for their audiences that will be published in authentic mediums. Projects will be shared with other teachers around the world on our Innovate My Class website. Final projects will also be shared with live audiences right at the Bronx Zoo during an end-of-unit celebration at the endangered animal exhibits.
Equipment
Participating PDN teachers will receive one iPad syncing and charging cart for their school as well as additional iPad 3's.
Meals
Breakfast will be served from 8:30 - 9:00 at the Bronx Zoo. Lunch will also be served at the Bronx Zoo.
Meals at HRTC (day 1) TBD.
